My First IS Lesson on Wednesday

Hello everyone who comes and sees my blog, I am Lim Wei Hng. 13-1-2010 is my first day of IS Lesson. My teacher(Mr.Kent) teaches me and my classmates a lot of things. I feel it is very interesting and I also learn many things about the Internet like the true meaning of ARPA is Advanced Research Project Agency. I also learn about the words used often by the Internet, example: ISP, OSP and Wireless Internet Service Provider, these are the ways to access the Internet.

Now what is the WWW? It is actually called World Wide Web. But what can it does and helps us in the Internet? It is a worldwide collection of electronic documents. The document is called Web Page. It is able to contain text, graphics, sounds, built- in connection, etc. There are many types of top-level domain. The most popular and famous is com. And the others such as edu(Which is used by the educational website), gov(Used by the government agencies) and org(For non-profit organization). The word URL which means Uniform Resource Locator is a particular and unique address of a Web Page.

There are also many search engines in the Internet. Search engines such as Google, YAHOO!, MSN Search, etc. There is also five types of graphics formats, i.e. BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF and TIFF. Finally, what is nettique? It is code of acceptable behaviors users should follow and obey while on the Internet.
